blogs

I didn't mind blogs this year.  They were somewhat helpful developing reading and writing skills.  What you could change to improve the process of blogs is make them interesting. Make student want to write about them and share them with the class. It would help them do it faster and want to do it more.

Senate rejects abortion rules, transgender bills

I agree with the senate on their decisions because Maine Senate killed three bills that would have added conditions for women who seek to have abortions in Maine. I don't think girls should get abortions unless they have to. They are taking away a life I don't think women realize that!

how the Leopard got its spots!

How the Leopard got his spots is the Leopard lives in the High Veldt. He was the same color as the High Veldt grass so he would hide in the grass and pounce on the things that came by and scared them. The animals then lived for so long that they would avoid anything that looked like a Leopard or the Ethiopian. The animals that the Leopard and the Ethiopian ate became camouflage as well so then they would starve. The Leopard and Ethiopian became so hungry that they ate beetles and rats. They then went to the Flora to look for their old food because the dog told them to. After they tried to find them they couldn't so they waited until it got dark and then smelt and heard the anumals they were looking for. At dark the Leopard found the Zebra and the Eithiopian found the Giraffe and then asked them questions about their hiding and they told them it has to do with the shawdows.

MaineHealth Should Not Skip Out on City Taxes

I think MaineHealth should pay the taxes just like everyone else. If other people have to then why shouldn't them. Even though people are stuggling they still should have to pay them.

How do you think the play is going to end

I think the play is going to end with Romeo getting killed by the Prince. Then Juliet finding out and she's so upset with everything that she kills herself. And the two different sides will realize everything they have done and will become friends. Everything will be peaceful and happy in the end of the book, but still sad at the same time.

emphasis should be placed on one standardized test

I think such emphasis should be placed on one standardized test because it will make people want to try harder. If the get there point across that they want you to do you're best than you probably will try you're best! I think everyone should have emphasis, even if you don't want it.

reaction in the US to the news of Osama Bin Laden's death

I feel indifferent with the overly joyous reaction in the US to the news of Osama Bin Laden's death. I'm gald they found him and he's not around anymore. But some people might take it too far like in the article Graffiti on Portland mosque decried, investigated Someone spray painted stuff like "Osama today, Islam tomorow (sic)," which is so sad to see and very raciest to our community. Once again I'm happy he's gone and its okay to show that affection but don't take it too far to the point where you're starting something new.

The Renaissance and Shakespares work

The Renaissance influence Shakespeare's work by Shakespeare updated the simplistic, two-dimensional writing style of pre-renaissance drama. He focused on creating “human” characters with psychologically complexity. Hamlet is perhaps the most famous example of this. The upheaval in the accepted social hierarchy allowed Shakespeare to explore the humanity of every character regardless of their social position. Even monarchs are given human emotions and are capable of making mistakes.Shakespeare utilized his knowledge of Greek and Roman classics when writing his plays. Before the renaissance, these texts had been suppressed by the Catholic Church.

Reading Shakespeare's Plays

important tips the article suggests are in Shakespeare's plays.  The answer is no.  Shakespeare wrote the way he did for poetic and dramatic purposes. There are many reasons why he did this--to create a specific poetic rhythm, to emphasize a certain word, to give a character a specific speech pattern, etc. We speak in prose (language without metrical structure).  Shakespeare wrote both prose and verse (poetry).  Much of the language discussion we will have in this guide revolves around Shakespeare's poetry.

Shakespeare's Style

Shakespeare wrote in the language and style of his time. It's difficult for anyone to read being a student or adult because of how much English has changed. I learned reading the website was Shakespeare wrote in verse and sonnet. The structure of a sonnet is 14 lines. A good way to decipher what Shakespeare was saying is to read the sonnets or plays line by line. It helps to have a dictionary at hand to help decode unknown words or phrases. It also helps to see a Shakespeare play performed. The actors have studied the language of Shakespeare, understand the meaning of his words and are able to convey their meaning to an audience. If nothing else, sometimes seeing the action itself helps the listener understand what Shakespeare meant. There are also several books and Web sites dedicated to translating Shakespeare's works line-by-line, giving the hidden meaning and context behind what he is saying. Some even apply modern phrases or conventions to his old-fashioned words.

did the real William Shakespeare write his plays

I think the real William Shakespeare wrote his plays. The guy that tried to say that he didn't probably wrote some good plays himself. Just because Marlo died, doesn't mean Shakespeare didn't write his own plays. People write the same stuff all the time. But no one came be as good as William Shakespeare himself. Even if his plays were like others, people choose to make him the more popular one and read his books.

William Shakespeare Biography

William Shakespeare was an English playwright, poet, and actor. William Shakespeare was born on April 23, 1564, in Stratford-upon-Avon, England. No one knows anything about his childhood. Shakespeare's school years, he probably attended the Stratford grammar school and studied the classics, Latin grammar and literature. Though little read and performed today, Shakespeare's first plays in the popular history genre (particular style) are equally ambitious and impressive. Shakespeare's work has continued to seem to each generation like its own most precious discovery. He got married at 18 to Ann Hathaway and had 3 kids with her. His value to his own age is suggested by the fact that two fellow actors performed the virtually unprecedented (never done before) act in 1623 of gathering his plays together and publishing them in the Folio edition. Without their efforts, since Shakespeare was apparently not interested in publication, many of the plays would not have survived. He pasted away on April 23, 1616 on his own birthday.

Explosions Rock Libyan Capital; Opposition Seeks 'Heavy' Weapons.

I don't think the United Nations should supply the rebels with the weaponry they are asking for. Other words, The sort of involvement I think the United Nations should have in another countries civil war is we shouldn't get into it unless we have to. If innocent people are getting killed then yes we should step in but other wise if it doesn't have to do with us with us, why join another war?

Please explain in your own words what the conflict is and why the fighting began.

The conflict is M.E and N.A protesting against there government. The fighting began because they were mad about high unemployment, Oppression, lack of housing and distribution of wealth. All are just economics. America is trying to stay there distance, but if there killing innocent people we feel the need to help them out. He's about to lose control of his country and he knows it so he's trying to get us and everyone else on his side. I don't think he will win this.

Do you think the punishment fits the crime? Why or why not?

I think the punishment fits the crime. He's in jail for pretty much the rest of his life like he should be. He commited an awful crime and will have to pay for his mistakes. So being in jail for the rest of his life seems like a pretty good punishment for the horrible thing he did. I think the punishment could have gotten even worse though.

how has your definition of the word changed? Why is understanding culture important?

My definition of the word culture still means the behaviors and beliefs characteristic of a particular social, ethnic, or age group.  Understanding culture is important because you need to know not everyone comes from the same back round. Everyone's different in there own way.

Maine is looking to make some major budget cuts

I think these changes are a good idea. They don't take money away from people that are struggling, or need help.

In dueling rallies, views collide over benefit cuts

I don't think that teachers salary's should be cut. I don't think state workers should have their benefits cuts because there working citizens and deserve the pay they are giving. What they should do is take it away from prison funding. They don't need the money as much as people like teachers do and they already don't get payed as much as they should so why take more away.

If you moved to a new country, what parts of your culture would you change?

If I moved to a new culture I would refuse to change my religion and the things I celebrate. Also how I dressed. I wouldn't really want to change a lot. But I would like to learn how to speak a new language. Another I wouldn't mind eating there food(if it was good). In the end I would mostly just want to stay with the same culture I've always known.

Do you think American's should follow the model of assimilation or cultural pluralism

I think American's should follow the model of cultural pluralism. No one should have to leave there culture. We should allow people to do whatever they want, and we can all get along. Everyone should learn each others culture it will give you more education about the world to. They don't have to believe or celebrate what they do but learning about could make it better. So in conclusion everyone should be able to practice there own culture and believe what they want to.

texting and driving

I think there should be a law passed about texting while driving. The punishments should be having there licence suspended and if they get caught again then they should have to spend a few days in jail. I think this is a serious issue. So many people have died because of texting distracting the driver and it needs to end. I know I hate it when my sister does so if theres a legit rule it will help lessen the amount of people who do it. There should definitely be a law passed about texting while driving.

should Bush be charged with war crimes?

I don't think Bush should be charged because he didn't really brake any laws. I know a lot of people don't like him but that shouldn't be a reason to charge someone at all.

“Which was worse, to walk around with everything held inside so that no one really knew you? Or to have these feelings exposed to the whole world?”

“Which was worse, to walk around with everything held inside so that no one really knew you? Or to have these feelings exposed to the whole world?” I think it's better to have you're feelings exposed to the world. I think this the better choice because holding everything in can make you sick and depressed. Maybe not for everyone but I know thats how it can make me feel. Even if everyone knows it will be okay because you are who you are and no one can change that.

Honors English 10 or C.P. English 10?

Growing up in American

The purpose of this article is to put together studies that directly/indirectly show children's immigration experiences and outcomes. The place studies into framework to make the second generation understand better. Three things are notably different between United States immigrants during the early 1900's and the immigrants of the late 1900's that most of ethnically diverse segment of America's child population growth was faster. In the late 1990's there was much more immigrants that were mostly Asian and Latino. Most people think that alot of the immigrants would cover most of the society of the US, then there would be room for all the people who want to come to the United States. It is important to study second generation immigrants in the United States because we would need to see how many more people would want to come here and live.

why do people immigrate to the United States?

People everywhere immigrate to America because It's more free here. You can do much more then you can in other countries. Many reasons of it is of financial, sentimental, economic, religious and political reasons. Other immigrant to flee from their war. They hope to find a better future and to escape crammed spaces. Some want to experience new things and find new opportunities that weren't open before.

some challenges teen-immigrants face when adjusting to American culture

Some challenges teen-immigrants face when adjusting to American culture are the have rigid backgrounds that struggle with the burden of a global awareness while dealing with a culture that is very set in it's ways. If you are in a family that has recently immigrated to a new country, or are the child of fairly new immigrants, the "old country meets new" issue is very pronounced. It's hard moving some where new, we have differen't triditions and holidays. Addapting may take some time. specially being a teen or adult.

Do you want to graduate do you want to go to college? If so what are you going to do in school to reach those goals?

I really want to graduate and go to college! That's my goal for my high school years. To reach these goals I will do all my work on time, study and do well on test, and most of just try my best with everything I do!

why should we go home early from school today

We should leave school early because the roads are bad and they could be getting worse as the day goes on, so leaving before they do is the smarter choice. then again were half way through the day anyway so canceling sports today is probably the best idea.

If a exchange student was coming to america what should they know about the culture? What should you prepare them for? What makes American culture unique?

If an exchange student was coming to America they should know about the ways of are life. For example our schools, jobs, music. American Culture is very unique, because everyone everywhere is different. There's a lot of freedom here in America. You can wear anything you want, speak mostly any langauge but the main one is English.

What do you think about this argument? How does this effect culture in Maine

We have a lot of lobster in Maine, there fore we should limit the amounts that we are selling. We have to think where it will help our economy.  Also think about who to sell it to at a good price. Maine's fishing industry is worth of about 300 million a year. This will effect maine culture a lot, considering that tons of Maine family's eat lobster. It also helps out culture by suppling stores like walmart, whole foods,  and costco make money. In 2009 maine lobsterman hauled in about 75 million pounds of lobster, but the 2010 catch is expected to be around 100 million pounds. Maine's culture depends on lobster and it depends on us too.

own definition of culture

My own definition of culture is the way of life for every kind of person in the world. My culture is full of things like religion, home/family, clothes, things we want, things we need to survive, food, language and much more!
